The landscape comes back to life

Hillsides awash in color, the oaks just starting to get leaves.

The Serendipity of the Season

Image
An interesting year its been. I broke my wrist in March. Thanks to the help of Gene, neighbors, friends, clients and remedies a very speedy healing occurred. As long as I can trim my ponies feet and stack hay - I'm good. My hand continues to regain the finer points of dexterity as I am reacquainting myself with art. Been away from that way too long. Squeezed in quite a few visits with the wild herd, even had a few folks from LA join in. It is a magical experience to soak in the peace of the valley the wild herd habits and the pure energy such beings, in charge of their own volition, can impart. No need to die, I found heaven. The last of the old pack passed. Goldie finally met with the spirit pack. A new band of 3 Chihuahuas, Momma Doty, Baby Natcho and Aunty Honey joined Solandana. Duane has canine family that adores him! The ponies, aged yet going strong, sing the changes of seasons and being in the pasture with them and all the surrounding wildlife feeds the soul. The lan...

An Impromptu Proving of 1st Snow

Image
It fell on Dec. 6, 2018, St. Nicolas Day. For those of us raised in European homes, every child knows to polish and leave their shoes in plane sight so St. Nicolas can leave some pre-Christmas goodies. So began the season of winter magic. The storm came through our little Brite Valley, rain, then a flurry of soft, fluffy flakes, eventually it was coming to earth heavily enough to create a bit of "whiteout". Gene and I were playing like kids in the cold white that blanketed the ground. Pinky the paint was covered in a layer of snow, Belle just peaked from her stall door. The dogs were mostly amused, except Peppy, it was incredible how soft this snow left their coats. A 2 inch blanket covered everything, it occurred to me to leave a clean, sterilized, half- pint jar and capture some to make a remedy. Water is an incredible carrier of messages. The valley we in live has no paved roads, just private dirt roads. There was no traffic, the snow could come and go as natur...

Introducing Miss Dolly Madison

Image
Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce Solandana's newest member, Miss Dolly  Madison... She lived close by and needed some TLC. In another blog we will go into more detail as she will be a most exquisite study of human intentions on the equine body. She is older and a pony (under 14.2 hands), she is in her 20's.  I have waited a month to post pics, as her initial pics showed a very skinny pony. So even though she needs to muscle up and fill out some more, realize these pics are a month into her stay here. She spent some time in the round pen, getting to know Pinky and Belle. She was alone for a long time and needed some time to rebuild her equine social skills. The second day after her arrival I felt like a kid at Christmas, be it she was a very skinny pony. I was up at 4am and it was the neatest thing to walk next door to the barn and peek in on them all. As you can see, the herd of 3 is getting along just fine. There is s...
